The Fourth Triennial National Midwifery Conference in conjunction with the International Day of the Midwife was successfully held in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and Midwifery Society of Nepal (MIDSON) on 6-7 May, 2025 with the theme of “National commitment to Midwifery: A Pathway to Improving Maternal and Newborn Health and Advancing Gender Equality”.
Honorable Minister Pradip Poudel, Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) was the chief guest who inaugurated the conference formally. Ms. Won Young Hong, Country Representative to Nepal-UNFPA, Dr. Rajesh Sambhajirao Pandav, WHO Representative to Nepal, Dr. Budhi Setiawan, Chief Health at UNICEF, Dr. Cathy Ellis, Associate Professor of Teaching Emeritus- Midwifery Program UBC, Dr. Laxmi Tamang- ICM Board Member, South-East Asia Region, Prof. Kiran Bajracharya- Founder President, Midson, prof. Goma Devi Niraula, President, Midson and Prof. Pramila Dewan, Conference Coordinator attended the inaugural session. The session was chaired by MIDSON’s President, Prof. Goma Devi Niraula and delivered key remarks. The oration of the conference was done by Prof. Kiran Bajracharya.
Around 300 participants (Male: 13 and Female: 287) from all across seven provinces of Nepal as well as international guests attended the conference. There were 18 presentations altogether (5 sponsor sessions, 9 oral presentations, 4 invited talks), 6 poster presentations, two panel discussions and two workshops under ten thematic sessions.
Finally , the two-day conference wrapped up with the formation of a five-point declaration which was later formally handed over to the Ministry of Health and Population(MoHP) and National Planning Commission(NPC).
