3rd Triennial National Midwifery Conference

The triennial Third National Midwifery Conference in conjunction with International Day of the Midwife was successfully conducted by Midwifery Society of Nepal (MIDSON) on 4th-5th may, 2019 with the theme of “Midwives: Advocate for Safe motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights” and “Midwives: Defenders of Women’s Rights” as a theme for IDM day globally. Honorable Dr. Surendra Kumar Yadav, State Minister of Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) was the chief guest who inaugurated the conference formally

 

The health Secretary at MOHP Mr. Ram Prasad Thapaliya,, Dr R.P. Bichha, Acting  Director General of DOHS, Teku and other dignitaries were in the dias including Guest of Honor Dr. Emi Nurjasmi, President, Indonsian Midwives Association and Executive Board, ICM (South East Asia).  Ms.RoshaniTuiTui, Director, Nursing and Social Security Division, Prof. Goma Niraula  Shrestha, President Nepal Nursing Council,  and Dr. Jos Vandelaer, EDP Chair and WHO Representative to Nepal, Ms.LubnaBaqi, Country Representative, UNFPA, Dr. Paul Rueckert, Chief Technical Advisor, GIZ, S2HSP during inaugural session. The session was chaired by MIDSON President and key remarks were delivered. The oration of the conference was done by Dr. Emi Nurjasmi.

There were total of 35 presentations that were organized into 6 parallel sessions (23 oral presentation), 2 plenary sessions (8 oral presentations), 4 panel discussions under nine thematic sessions which were:

1.                  Strengthening midwifery in improving maternal and newborn health in Nepal.

2.                  Inter-professional collaboration in strengthening quality of maternity care in Nepal.

3.                  Maternity care I: Prenatal, Intranatal,  Postnatal and Newborn care

4.                Consultation with the government and relevant stakeholders for the importance of formulating policies for the implementation of  Safe Motherhood, Reproductive Health and Rights Act, focusing on Safe abortion

5.                  Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health

6.                  Accessibility and availability of safe abortion among young women in Nepal

7.                  Midwifery Education

8.                  Reproductive health and rights

9.                  Reproductive health morbidities

 

 

There were  353 participants including executives and officers from Ministry of Health and Population and other representatives from partner agencies, academicians,  nurses, students midwives and  different health professionals and media persons.
